Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Redemption of shares must be requested in writing, with a six-month notice before the end of the year. Shares are redeemed at their nominal value (par), without any capital gain, as specified in Article 4 of our Statutes.

No. Fair2C shares are always redeemed at their original nominal value (par). There is no value appreciation or capital gain.

If you join now, you will receive an interest payment until the end of the current calendar year. This interest must be declared as interest income in your Swiss tax return and will be taxed at your ordinary income tax rate.

From the following fiscal year onwards, you will receive a dividend instead of an interest. Dividends will be paid net of 35% Swiss withholding tax. This withholding tax can generally be reclaimed through your Swiss tax declaration. Dividends must be declared as dividend income and will be taxed at ordinary income tax rates. Each year, Fair2C provides its members with a letter confirming the amount and nature of the income to facilitate tax reporting.

Participation is welcome but not mandatory. As a cooperative member, you have voting rights at the General Assembly and can engage in the cooperative’s activities, events and decisions. However, there is no obligation to actively participate beyond your investment.

While Fair2C aims for financial stability and carefully manages risks, losses cannot be entirely ruled out. As per Swiss cooperative law, liability is limited to the amount of your shareholding (no personal liability beyond the invested capital).

The dividend target is 3% per year on the nominal value of the shares, as stated in Article 28 of our Statutes. Please note that dividends are not guaranteed and depend on the financial results of the cooperative.

Your investment enables Fair2C to prefinance the harvest and export of Fairtrade-certified products, allowing farmers to make additional sales at a better Fairtrade price and conditions. By supporting smallholder farmer organizations, Fair2C contributes to five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on:

  • SDG 1: No Poverty
  • SDG 2: Zero Hunger

More details can be found in our latest Impact Report

Our latest Impact Report (starting from page 33) features profiles and portraits of the farmer organizations Fair2C has supported, highlighting the tangible results achieved through member investments.

Fair2C is organized as a Swiss cooperative (Genossenschaft/coopérative) under Articles 828–926 of the Swiss Code of Obligations.

Key principles include:

  • One member, one vote, regardless of the number of shares held.
  • Member ownership, meaning members are both investors and owners.
  • Limited liability, with members liable only up to the amount of their invested capital.
  • Profit distribution through modest dividends, aligned with the cooperative’s social purpose rather than profit maximization.

The cooperative operates based on democratic principles, transparency, and a long-term commitment to its mission.
